Trees And The Law

Tree Preservation Orders

The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 provides legislation to protect trees. Trees can be protected from removal or damage in a variety of ways, the most common of which is with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or by being within a Conservation Area (CA).

A large number of trees are protected in the UK. Trees will need to be checked to see whether they are subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if the tree(s) lies within a Conservation Area by contacting your local authority prior to planning any work. We can assist with checks and applications for work. If you would like to find out if a tree may be protected or would like more information about a particular tree please click on the link to theĀ Leeds City Council.

Aire Valley Tree Consultancy Limited can complete and pursue an application to a Local Planning Authority (LPA) to carry out works to protected trees ensuring a prompt accurate process, we can also facilitate in appeals and breaches of existing tree preservation orders.
